 L'Ecole Nº 41
A family-owned business, L'Ecole Nº 41 was founded by Jean and Baker Ferguson. Today, the winery is owned and operated by their daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Martin Clubb. L'Ecole, French for "the school," began its winery in 1983, in the basement of the old 1915 Schoolhouse No 41. In 1996, production was expanded by the addition of a state-of-the-art facility built that year, while the winery's laboratory and red wine-barrel aging took over the basement. Located on the main floor, L'Ecole's tasting room was restored, preserving the schoolroom character with its original chalkboards, light fixtures, fir floors and moldings. Tucked away among barrels in the cellar is a Christmas pageant mural and child-size drinking fountain. Offices and an oversized meeting room also echo uses of schooldays past. Even the label for L'Ecole wines incorporates the historic schoolhouse theme, thanks to the 1983 artistic rendition of the winery by then eight-year-old Ryan Campbell. The winery is currently producing about 30,000 cases annually. L'Ecole Nº 41 Semillon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are all barrel aged, creating a significant demand for barrel storage.L'Ecole Nº 41

We believe in well-balanced wines, good acidity, firm but not over-powering tannins, complementary oak extraction, and vibrant, expressive aromas and fruit flavors. To achieve these ends,
they have a high quality dual focus on vineyard management and winemaking practices.
L'Ecole Nº 41 Winery
Restored in 2000, the tasting room occupies one of two classrooms, preserving the old schoolhouse character with original chalkboards, light fixtures, fir floors and moldings. Climb the rolling ladder to select a library book to read at the fireplace or sample your favorite wine at the 100-year-old Baker Boyer Bank check stand. Inspect the antique bank clock or the Falkenberg stained glass windows.

L'Ecole 41 Cabernet Sauvignon Washington
Due to the exceptional quality of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in this region, L'Ecole Nº 41 has been producing this full-bodied varietal since 1989. In style, they pick and ferment their Cabernet Sauvignon similarly to the Merlot, with small lot fermentations punched down by hand to control tannin and phenolics. It is aged 22 months in French and American oak barrels.

L'Ecole 41 Merlot Washington
L'Ecole No 41 is indisputably best known for Merlot — their principle red variety since 1983! Fermentation control is carried out in a traditional Bordeaux style, with small lot fermentations punched down by hand for optimal color and flavor extraction. When the fermentation is completed, the must is gravity fed into the press. The wine is gently racked into a combination of new and older French and American oak barrels and aged for 18 months.

Seven Hills Estate Vineyard
L'Ecole Nº 41 is a partner in the acclaimed Seven Hills Vineyard located in the Walla Walla Valley Appellation. Approximately 35% of our production comes from Seven Hills Vineyard, in which we are co-partners with Leonetti Cellar and Pepper Bridge Winery. The vineyard was originally planted in 1981 and has been expanded to more than 200 acres, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Semillon.
