Evesham Wood was founded by Russ and Mary Raney in 1986. After a comprehensive search throughout the Willamette Valley, they chose a site for the estate vineyard, "Les Puits Sec" (French for "the dry well" which
they have in the vineyard). It was in 1986 that Evesham Wood first produced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, using grapes purchased primarily from
very near Temperance Hill & Seven Springs vineyards, two fine Eola Hills sites. The keys to success at Evesham Wood are organic viticulture with fruit sourced from like-minded growers, fermentations with a pied de cuve, aging in primarily well-used French oak barrels, racking by hand, and no filtration.
Evesham Wood Pinot Noir
Evesham Wood harvests this Pinot Noir from several vineyards in Northern Willamette Valley. With a focus on quality viticulture, these vineyards are all dry-farmed and cultivated sustainably. Grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, fermented in small lots, and aged in French oak for 10 months before bottling. This adds up to an excellent value for deftly handmade and terroir-driven Pinot Noir. Bright and crunchy with cranberry, red cherry and cinnamon with a bit of firmness on finish.

Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Les Puits Sec 2009
Le Puits Sec Vineyard is a warm site and the house style, started by founder Russ Raney and continued by owner/winemaker Erin Nuccio, is one of elegance and finesse without excessive ripeness. Made from the winery's 13 acre estate Le Puits Sec Vineyard, planted in 1986 by former owner Russ Raney. Russ is an advocate of dry farming, and the vines grew without irrigation, producing the kind of complex, enticing flavors that only come from "deep roots" Pinot noir grapes. Current owner Erin Nuccio keeps up and expands the tradition with his preference whenever possible for non-irrigated organic grapes. Classic Le Puits Sec flavors of ripe plum, violet and white pepper are complimented by earthy mushroom and a silky texture.
