Matua Wines
Matua Valley Wines began as a small, family-run winery in West Auckland, New Zealand, in 1973. Growing up in a winemaking family in the winemaking community of West Auckland, Matua
Valley's founders Ross and Bill Spence developed a vision for New Zealand's
future. In the next few years, winemakers Ross and Bill Spence quickly gained a reputation for innovative, award-winning New Zealand wines - including the first New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Their goal was to revolutionise the still fledgling local wine industry, taking advantage of unique regional qualities to create innovative and distinguished wines - the kind they wanted to drink themselves.
January 2007 - Best Chardonnay in the World
Matua Valley's Ararimu Chardonnay 2000 has been judged the BEST CHARDONNAY IN THE WORLD at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition in London.
Considered the premier event of its kind, the International Wine and Spirit Competition follows an Olympic-style format, awarding only one gold, silver and bronze medal in each category.
Matua Valley is one of New Zealand's oldest and most respected wineries. Established in West Auckland in 1974, its innovative, high-quality wines have been demanding attention from the world's leading palates for more than 25 years.

Matua Paretai Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
The Sauvignon Blanc fruit used to produce this wine was grown in the Marlborough region, situated on the Northern tip of the South Island in New Zealand. Marlborough is internationally renown for producing varietally distinctive, high quality Sauvignon Blanc wines. The vineyards chosen for this wine were from low yielding rocky soils trained to a two cane Vertical Shoot Positing Trellis. This combination resulted in low cropping vines that maximized the fruity intensity and flavour in the berries. The 2006 Marlborough vintage was extraordinarily early, warm weather in the early part of the season enabled both flavour and sugar development. This resulted in ripe generous flavours in the Sauvignon Blanc.
Cellaring Paretai Sauvignon Blanc is produced in a wine style that is most suited to early consumption. To fully appreciate the fresh vibrancy of this wine it should be consumed within two years of its production.
