Podere il Palazzino
Palazzino is located in Monti, a small village thatís part of the Gaiole subregion, 20 km northeast of Siena, in the southern part of Chianti Classico
Area. Il Palazzino farm is owned by Alessandro and Andrea Sderci. The Sderci family became owner of Il Palazzino in the middle of the nineteenth century. Consultants are very important in Tuscany. Alessandro Sderci thinks that the reason is that unlike the situation in Piedmont (which had a tradition of small producers), Chianti didnít have a widespread knowledge of making wine, which in the past was usually in the hands of big fattoria.
Palazzino Grosso Sanese Riserva 1.5L 1995
Grosso Sanese originates in a vineyard covering about two hectares next to the estate headquarters. The fairly compact lime-based soil is composed mainly of alberese and galestro. The vines are pruned according to the spurred cordon method, leaving a maximum of six buds.
Production is limited to 5,000 to 6,000 liters per hectare (2.5 acres), for a total production of about 10,000 bottles per year. Fermentation takes place in 5,000-liter oak barrels. The wine is refined in barriques made of Alliers oak, thirty percent of which are replaced each year. Here it stays for eighteen months, before the final blending and bottling. The wine then ages in the bottle for another six months before being released for sale. Deep inky purple, the wine has gobs of blackberry and cherry compote, nicely balanced by lingering berry flavors, vanilla, sweet spices, and toasty notes with an earthy finish and stony minerality.
