Tenute Silvio Nardi
Tenute Silvio Nardi located in an unspoiled part of central Tuscany: Montalcino, produces finely rendered Brunellos that highlight the specific terroir of the plots where they are grown. The estate's vineyards are situated between 140 and 420 meters above sea level: some extend north-west of Montalcino on the hills around Casale del Bosco, while others are located to the north of it at Tenuta di Bibbiano and to the south-east at Manachiara.
Nardi Rosso di Montalcino 2009
Rosso di Montalcino comes primarily from young vineyards from the western side of Montalcino. Rosso di Montalcino, sometimes referred to as Baby Brunello, gained its DOC (Denominazione di origine controllata) ranking in 1983. It is referred to as Baby Brunello because it is produced 100% from the same Sangiovese clones used in Brunello di Montalcino, but does not have the same aging requirements as Brunello. Harvested and made into wine using the same care that is used to make Brunello, this Rosso is a young vibrant wine, that is ready starting in the September after harvest. Approximately 50,000 bottles are produced every year.
The wine's intense cherry red color and ripe, well-extracted wild cherry fruit aromas are offset by suggestions of leather and spice, confirmed on the palate in a chewy, forward wine of medium full body and velvety tannic structure. Pull the cork on a bottle for a bowl of pasta fagioli, a rustic pasta dish, simple roast chicken or grilled pork chops.
