Fontezoppa is located between the town of Serrapetrona and San Severino, which is considered to be one of the best spots to grow grapes in the Marche region. It is in the area between the Adriatic Sea and the Azzurri Mountains that Cantine Fontezoppa grows and ages its best wines. Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet, Lacrima, as well as Maceratino, Incrocio Bruni and Pecorino are the vine varieties established around Civitanova Alta, where they have the added benefit of the sea. The owner/winemaker Giovanni Basso has over 20 years of experience as a grower and always produces wines of traditional character that respect the territory.
Fontezoppa Marche Rosso 2009
A delightful blend of 50% Sangiovese, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Marche Rosso continues the string of exceptional, well-priced and tasty wines that issue from this excellent
Fontezoppa property. Intense, bright ruby red. The Fontezoppa Rosso Marche is full bodied and has a nice note of black pepper. It has a dark berry flavor without being too berry-ish.
The nose is dominated by aromas of cherries and green pepper. Soft tannins with a meatier body and a fresh finish. Pair with pasta but it goes well with meat and cheeses, too, and, of course, pizza.
It, Now! |
Le Marche is a beautiful wine region, with miles of untamed coastline, picturesque fishing villages like Portonovo, Renaissance gems like Urbino, medieval hamlets such as Urbania, rustic mountain villages like Carpegna and wild expanses of nature that culminate in the splendorous peaks of Monti Sibillini. Coined “the New Tuscany”, the Marche Wine Region is one of Italy’s last untouched wine regions.
