Fonterutoli is located 5 km south of Castellina in Chianti (Siena), on the hills facing the Val d'Elsa, in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Castello di Fonterutoli has been the heart and soul of the Marchesi Mazzei story and wine-production for nearly 600 years. The character of the wines of the Castello di Fonterutoli, one of the most important companies in the Chianti Classico and indeed in all of Italy, has been perfected over the years thanks to continual innovation, in harmony with the winery’s culture, history and heritage of technical expertise.
Badiola, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, is a deep, inky purple color. The vineyard is located at Badiola with an altitude of 450 m. It has an intense aromas of dark fruits and cocoa. Soft and smooth on the palate, with flavors of wild blackberries and raspberries. Blueberries, cream, a touch of pine needles and the lovely creamy cocoa character that surfaces in several of the Mazzei family's wines from the Fonterutoli estate. Supremely elegant in the mouth, and beautifully pure in style, its distinctive Italian-ness manifests itself here. It's well balanced, with great depth and a long finish.
