Domenico Clerico’s small estate is situated in Monforte d’Alba, right in the heart of Barolo. Domenico Clerico is one of the most respected names in all Barolo, and his wines are renowned for both winemaking of the highest quality and for their exceptional expression of terroir, derived from outstanding vineyard holdings in four of the greatest crus of Monforte: Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana and Mosconi.
Clerico Arte 1999
“Arte” was the original “super-Piedmont” wine. Crowd-pleasing blend of Nebbiolo (about 90 percent) and Barbera that drinks sumptuously even at this young age. Marc de Grazia and Clerico devised this ground-breaking blend together in 1983.
1 ha of Nebbiolo from single vineyards in Ginestra, Pajana and Mosconi areas. It shows the important structure, acidity and promptness of fruit for a steady evolution. Many of Clerico’s
best wines are engineered in this fashion: Although they taste beautiful
straight out of the bottle, they generously reward those who wait. In this case,
you get layers of bold fruit, spice, and tobacco that are carefully woven into
the thick and enduring fabric of the wine. Food pairing: Ham, Barbeque
Pulled-Pork or Ribs, Pork Chops, Pork w/Fruit Sauce, Lamb Shish Kabobs, Veal
Scaloppini, Wild Game or Roast Chicken, Pasta with Meat & Tomato Sauce, Pasta
with Creamy Mushroom Sauces, Squash or Pumpkin Ravioli.

Situated at the far southern end of the Barolo zone, Monforte d’Alba is one of 11 communes producing Piedmont’s celebrated Nebbiolo-based wines. The style varies from commune to commune, based on the dominant soil types: older Helvetian soils in Monforte and Serralunga d’Alba, younger Tortonian soils in La Morra, Novello, Verduno, and Barolo itself.
