Casanova di Neri
Located in the heart of Tuscany, Montalcino is about 24 miles north of Siena,
Italy. The Casanova di Neri farm began in 1971 when Giovanni Neri bought a large estate within the territory of Montalcino.
Over the years our continuing goal has been the search for and purchasing of land which we believe to be optimal for growing high quality grapes. The result is that today we have about 36 hectares of vineyards divided between four quite distinct areas: il Pietradonice in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, le Cetine in Sant'Angelo in Colle, il Cerretalto and il Fiesole near the farmhouse of the same name facing Montalcino.
Giacomo Neri runs this estate, with oenological advice from consultant Carlo Ferrini, who also advises Castello di Brolio and Castello di Fonterutoli. With over twenty hectares of vineyard, Neri turns out a worthwhile collection of wines each vintage. Wines made in the area include Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino, Moscadello di Montalcino, Sant'Antimo Bianco, Sant'Antimo Vitgni Bianchi, Sant'Antimo Rosso and Sant'Antimo Vitgni Rossi. As the grapes have improved in quality so more care and attention has been taken in the winery from the vinification to the use of casks of different sizes and made from different types of wood.
Casanova di Neri Vineyard
The earth, the position, the microclimate, the choice of clones, the grafting and a well organised vineyard all help to produce great grapes which improve each year.
Il terreno, l'esposizione, il microclima, la scelta dei cloni, portainnesti, sesto di impianto ci stanno dando delle grandi uve ogni anno migliori.
The wines are almost entirely made from Sangiovese, and Neri has only limited plantings of other varieties to his name. Although fairly modern in style, they age well, and they are sensibly oaked, with only large Slovenian and French oak barrels in use.
In a single word - magnificent.
Thanks to its fine landscape and uncontaminated nature is the "Cetine" vineyard. Here we have 25 hectares facing south south-east on a magical hillside near Sant'Angelo in Colle.
Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2001 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova 2001 Brunello di Montalcino was named Wine Spectator's 2006 "Wine of the Year". Il Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova è nato dalla volontà di produrre un Brunello di grande personalità, iniziando dalla ricerca dei terreni ed esposizioni che ritenevamo ottimali. Made from 100% Sangiovese grosso blended from the vineyards of Pietrodonice and Le Cetine. After fermentation and maceration the wine ages in French oak barrels of 225 and 500 litres for 30 months. Currently one of the most interesting wineries in the Montalcino area. Especially the last 5 years spectaculair wines got released at this domain. Wine Spectator Rating -
