Podere La Brancaia has been owned by the Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981. It is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. It saw a vertical take-off when its vintage 83 won first place at a major Chianti Classico tasting. Since then, through uncompromising dedication to quality and a strong own identity, the continuous recognition of BRANCAIA was built up - spearheaded by the estates top-wine Brancaia IL BLU, being already a classic for many wine lovers all over the world. Of course, friendship between the Widmers and the Mazzei family, owners of the famous Castello di Fonterutoli, had much to do with this prompt success. Up to vintage 1997, the Brancaia wines were vinified and matured in their cellar. In 1999, Barbara Kronenberg-Widmer, the owners' daughter, took over as management of the estate - since March 2002 together with her husband Martin Kronenberg. They enjoy the support of the brilliant winemaker Dr. Carlo Ferrini as consultant. Carlo Ferrini was born in Florence in 1954. He is the advisor responsible for viniculture for some of the most renowned wine-growing estates in Tuscany.
In recent years La Brancaia has won many international awards. It is today one of Tuscany's top wine-growing estates with it's products being distributed worldwide.
2004 Brancaia Toscana Il Blu, # 9 in Wine Spectators 2006 top 100 list
The aromas leave me speechless, with freshly cut roses and lilacs that follow through to crushed blackberry and cherry undertones. Full-bodied, but extremely balanced, with velvety yet caressing tannins and a finish that goes on for minutes. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Podere La Brancaia
You can spend a lovely, most relaxing vacation in a beautiful setting.
Podere Brancaia is located in the heart of Tuscany, roughly 3 miles from the
village of Castellina in Chianti. The estate is surrounded by a park-like
garden right in the middle of 50 acres of vineyards, olive groves and
fields.
Siena or San Gimignano can be reached in 30 minutes by car, Florence is just
45 minutes away, and in 90 minutes you are at the sea.
Brancaia is an old Tuscan estate. It was carefully restored and equipped
with modern comfort in the early eighties. The external walls were left as
they were, and inside, too, primarily old materials were used, so the estate
satisfies high aesthetic standards.
