Cultivating vineyards has been a family business since 1497 when the two noble Venetian families of Bonmartini and Fini united in marriage and began producing wine in northeastern Italy.
Today, the Bonmartini family, direct descendants of the Barone Fini, continue to manage this venerable property. Giovanni Bonmartini-Fini is descended from Italian royalty—he is actually a count—and he is the
de facto head of Barone Fini, where wine making has consistently been part of the family business
for at least six centuries.
Barone Fini Merlot
Flavors of rich, ripe cherries and plums
are enriched by the smooth, deep, well-structured background, cassis and a smooth, velvety finish that brings chocolatey cherry notes to the fore. This is a stylish red, with graphite and aromatic herb notes, appealing ripe fruit profile and overall elegance.
It is beautifully balanced with the smooth, ripe tannins framing a vanilla and spice-tinged long, velvety finish. Barone Fini Merlot is unoaked and displays the classic fragrances and flavors of the varietal, suggesting plums and blackberries with good intensity, balance, and structure. It will pair well with rich and spicy foods such as Mexican dishes and Indian cocoanut curries. This wine will please both the Merlot and non-Merlot drinker and, at this price, it’s a steal!

The Trentino–Alto Adige is comprised of two separate areas. Trento refers to the southern part of the region and its capital is Trentino (the ancient Roman Tridentum). The name Alto Adige identifies the northern territory of the region that includes the higher (alto) part of the Adige River.
There are three grapes native to this region, one is the white Nosiola and the other two are the red Teroldego Rotoliano and the Marzemino. In addition to the native grapes, well known international grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot, Moscato, Pinot Nero and Pinot Grigio, as well as Müller-Thurgau, are grown throughout the region.
One main distinction between Trentino and Alto Adige production is the fact that in the northern area the wines are produced mostly by small family-owned and managed wineries that sell their product locally.
