Pomerol
is the smallest production area of the major Bordeaux appellations, meaning
extremely limited supply of these wines, leading to high prices for the most
sough-after wines. There is no classification in Pomerol appellation, but if one
existed, there is no doubt that Pétrus would be a first-growth. The most
prestigious wine of the world is appreciated by the richest connoisseurs. It owes
its fame with its particular perfumes of truffle, its aspect of black ink
which was worth to Petrus this nickname of Merlot blood.

The label simply says "Grand Vin". The uninitiated could be
forgiven for believing such modesty to be false modesty, or pride. Yet Petrus
ages with ease, often producing wines (89 et 90, 95 and 98) which achieve
perfection within their terroir and their wine variety, Merlot. today it is more
a myth than a wine.

Chateau Petrus 2002 Bordeaux France
Under the direction of Jean-Pierre's son, Christian, and their oenologist,
Jean Claude Berrouet, Petrus receives the care of a pampered child. The
grapes are picked only in the afternoon, when the morning dew has
evaporated, so as not to risk even the slightest dilution of quality.
Vinification and aging: The composition of the topsoil and the subsoil at
Petrus is almost all clay.
