Château
Lascombes Chateau Lascombes was founded in the early 1600's by the Lascombes family. The current chateau was built between 1875 and 1880. Lascombes was subsequently owned by the parliamantarian Jean-François Lascombes and his sister Anne in the mid-1700's, but the stability they provided disipated with a succession of itinerant owners until 1844, when it passed into the hands of the "Hüé" family who invested heavily into the vineyard and oversaw its 1855 classification as a second growth. Lascombes earned a ranking as a second growth in the Medoc Classification of 1855. At that time it was owned by Chaix d'Est-Ange who was a general under Napoleon III
and who rose to fame under Napoleon III by wining the Suez Canal case for France against Egypt.
Through the early 1900s, the chateau passed though several owners who did little to improve its wines and vineyards. It was purchased by Alexis Lichine and a syndicate in 1951. At the same time, Lichine also purchased Château Prieurè-Lichine, also in Margaux. Lichine improved the vineyards through his expertise and commitment.
Château Lascombes, Margaux Bordeaux The wines produced by Lascombes are found to be among those most in demand and most appreciated on the Anglo-Saxon market, particularly in the United States where château Lascombes plays its part as Ambassador for the Wines of France. After various purchases and regroupings, the property is now composed of 50 hectares which allow it to produce nearly 244 tonneaux. The winery buildings which have been recently renovated have enough floor-space to lay down up to 800 barrels and they are undoubtedly among the finest chais in Médoc.
Château Lascombes was owned between 1951 and 1971 by Alexis Lichine and was owned by Bass until the 2001. Bass Charrington sold Chateau Lascombes to the American company Colony Capital in 2001.
Colony Capital have invested heavily in the property and in particular have installed a state-of-the-art, stainless steel cuvier
and have put Dr. Alain Raynaud (of Quinault l'Enclos and La Fleur de Gay), Yves Vatelot (proprietor of the over-achieving generic Bordeaux, Reignac), and Bruno Le Moine (formerly of Montrose) in charge of the winemaking. The blend at Lascombes is made up of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, and the wine is aged in oak barriques (60% new) for 18 months. Lascombes produces elegant, well-balanced clarets, rich in succulent creamy blackcurrant fruits, which gain further complexity and depth with ageing.

Château Lascombes 2000, Margaux, Bordeaux
The first superb Lascombes in nearly 35 years, this generous, deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 does not possess the complexity or finesse of the 2001, but offers plenty of perfumed, smoky licorice, black currant, and cherry fruit in a medium-bodied, long, concentrated style with no hard edges. Rated 90/100 pts Robert Parker

Château Lascombes 2003, Margaux, Bordeaux
A seamless, seductive effort offering beautiful aromatics (plums, currants, cherries, licorice, flowers, and smoky barbecue scents), this medium-bodied, ethereal Margaux displays no hard edges in its lush, beguiling personality. Low acidity and ripe fruit have brought out the best in Lascombes, which has enjoyed its fourth consecutive high quality vintage after thirty years of mediocrity. Wine Spectator Rating 89-91
