Stag's Leap

Since Founding Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in 1972, Warren Winiarski has produced wines that are classical and refined in style.
Wines from this small, family-owned winery were in sudden demand when its 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon came in first place at the legendary 1976 Paris Tasting, an event that helped win international recognition for California wines.

2001 Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine’s richness of perfume and structure reveal the blend’s higher
percentage of grapes from the renowned FAY vineyard. The nose is filled with the
fragrance of violets, raspberries, rosemary, and truffle, with a core of black
plum. More black fruit blossoms on the palate, yielding flavors of black cherry
and a touch of cassis, shot through with a delicate overtone of vanilla. The
firm tannins carry through to a satisfyingly spicy finish. This beautifully
balanced wine will marry well with both traditional holiday favorites, such as
rare prime rib and roast turkey, and less obvious pairings, including seared Ahi
or swordfish with a savory shallot sauce or a rich white truffle risotto.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 2003 Sauvignon Blanc
Estate fruit makes up almost two-thirds of our 2003 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc,
and the source is our estate vineyard on Big Ranch Road, north of the town of
Napa. The remainder comes from Rancho Chimiles in Wooden Valley, whose owner,
Terrence Wilson, is one of a handful of growers whose viticultural practices
meet our own standards and with whom we have worked for many years. While our
estate fruit has a rounded flavor profile, the Rancho Chimiles fruit is leaner
and more structured, with a greater array of citrus notes. The blend gains
additional complexity from the fact that it is over a third Sauvignon Musqué, a
clonal variant of Sauvignon Blanc (originally from Bordeaux) that contributes a
subtly more forward rendition of the variety’s melon and passionfruit notes and
white pepper accents. |

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 2003 Sauvignon Blanc
Bright aromas of lime, passion fruit, and exotic spices signal this wine’s
sophisticated appeal. Flavors of comice pear and mandarin orange are
balanced by flinty mineral notes, and the rounded, refined texture leads
into a persistent, creamy finish.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 2002 Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon
A burst of cherry in the nose opens further to reveal discrete earthiness
and accents of allspice. Firm acidity provides brightness to an entry of
new leather and ripe cherry and raspberry flavors. Supple tannins
attenuate the seductiveness of the fruit. Try with grilled tri-tip steaks
served with herb butter and homemade onion rings or bouillabaisse.
