In early 1971, Ray Duncan was invited to invest in vineyard property in the Napa Valley. Captivated by its beautiful vistas and open land, Ray bought 750 acres of pastures, orchards, and vineyards. Realizing the excellent growing potential of his recent acquisition he enlisted the aid of Justin Meyer in planting and cultivating the vineyards that would later become the basis for Silver Oak Cellars.
Justin had been a member of the Christian Brothers, where he spent fifteen years learning all aspects of wine production. When he finally decided to leave the order he was in possession of a wealth of experience and a single purpose—to build a winery and make the best Cabernet in the world.
Following the well-established tradition of many French wineries, Justin wanted to create a Cabernet-only winery. The concept was revolutionary in America at the time, and appealed to Ray’s interests and love of adventure. Together the two men built Silver Oak Cellars into one of America’s most renowned wine brands.
Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2010
Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a vibrant, elegant expression of this classic appellation from a cooler vintage. It has a deep garnet color and an enticing nose of cassis liqueur, blueberry coulis, tobacco, tarragon and roasting coffee. The seamless palate starts with a berry-laden attack, follows with a full-bodied mid-palate, and ends with a long, savory finish with fine-grained, well-integrated tannins. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2031. But there's no need to wait, as the wine is supple enough to offer a great deal of pleasure in the near term.

Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009
The 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a ripe, rich, layered, yet elegant wine. It has a dark, ruby color and a complex nose of cassis jam, mocha, violets and nutmeg. On the palate, the wine has a delectable berry-laden entry and a rich, mouthcoating mid-palate. The tannins are beautifully integrated and the wine has a long, satiny finish. Silver Oak Cabernet sells well all over the country, but thanks to its big, ripe flavor profile, it's particularly successful in steakhouses. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2032. Silver Oak combines elegance and depth in a balanced expression of this California vintage. This wine is remarkable in how it continues to evolve in the glass over the course of a meal.
