The history of Sebastiani Vineyards dates back
to 1825. In that year, the Franciscan fathers of nearby mission San Francisco
Solano, assisted by local native Americans, first cleared and planted land for
their vineyards. These vineyards are among the oldest vineyard sites in northern
California. They were acquired in 1904 by Samuele Sebastiani, the founder of our
family winery, who immigrated from the wine producing region of Tuscany, Italy
in 1895.
Sebastiani Chardonnay
The Chardonnay aromatics have expressive apple and lemon zest with nuances of toasted grains, caramel apple and buttered pear. The flavor has "orchard fruit" delicately balanced with vanilla oak and acidity. This medium-bodied wine has a cleansing finish with lots of pleasant citrus characteristics. Arguably, the best of offering of Sonoma County Chardonnays.
Spotlights the sub-regions within Sonoma County -- Carneros, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley -- whose growing conditions, or terroir, produce wines that taste of the place from which they come. Carneros and Russian River Valley Chardonnays, for example, will be distinct from one another because the grapes are grown in different soils and climate.
Sebastiani Merlot
The aromas consist of blueberry and black cherry fruit with high tones of vanilla and char from the barrels. Your mouth will delight in the vanilla and mocha flavors coupled with "bigger" jammier fruit with greater tannins and acidity, which is so characteristic of the fruit from this vintage. It, stylistically, is more full-bodied and more age worthy than our past Sonoma County Merlots.
Single Vineyard Selection
Single vineyards and ranches can produce wine lots so
distinctive, concentrated and/or consistently superior that they warrant
separate bottlings. Fruit from specific sites such as Dutton Ranch in Russian
River Valley and Madrone Ranch in Sonoma Valley stands out due to meticulous
care in the vineyards, expert matching of clones and rootstocks to soils and
climate, and the grower's commitment to quality.

Sebastiani 2003 Sonoma Chardonnay Sonoma County, California

Our Sebastiani Sonoma Chardonnay has a medium golden color with aromas of green apple, lemon zest, vanilla and roasted nuts (from the oak barrels). It is medium bodied with intense "Golden Delicious" apple fruit flavors. The finish is soft with hints of caramel and bread toast. Enjoyable now in its youth, it will develop more hazelnut and honeyed complexities over the next three years while retaining its fruit.

church, through the middle years when immigrant farmers, mainly Italian,
brought with them the culture of wine as a normal part of life, to the huge
Multi-National corporations of the last twenty years, there is always
something new in this dynamic State.
