Russian River Valley
The Russian River Valley produces award-winning Chardonnay and pinot noir wines and is home to several small and large commercial wineries. The Russian River rises in the coastal mountain ranges of Mendocino County, north of Ukiah in Northern California. Starting at Lake Mendocino, it flows south through valleys in Mendocino County and Sonoma County along Highway 101. The river takes its name from Russian trappers who explored the river in the early 19th century, and established their trade colony Fort Ross nearby, a few miles to the north along the coast. |
