Mer Soleil is a Chardonnay label made by Charlie Wagner,
from the Wagner Family of Wine (Caymus, Conundrum, Belle Glos & Mer Soleil). Mer Soleil is named after its two prominent natural growing conditions of the Santa Lucia Highlands, sea (mer) and sun (soleil). This coastal appellation of Monterey County gives way to high quality Chardonnay as mornings and evenings pull in fog from the nearby Monterey bay, while the afternoons provide bright, warm sunlight.
Mer Soleil Chardonnay 2013
Mer Soleil uses fruit from the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation of Monterey County. Mer Soleil is fermented in French oak barrels chosen from an array of coopers. The wine opens with tropical fruit and honeysuckle aromas. Luxurious flavors of crème brulee and even a hint of butter are framed by notes of fine oak and the lively acidity of citrus zest. The mouth-feel is full and lush and brings all the wine's elements through to a long, persistent finish.
Food pairing: In general, avoid tomato based dishes - the sharp acidity of the tomato doesn't go well with the buttery flavors in a Chardonnay. Chardonnay is a light white wine, so things like steaks and game will overwhelm the flavor. The light, fruity flavors of Caribbean cooking go well.

It, Now! l
Wine drinkers find it flatteringly easy to enjoy, with its broad, exuberant charms, relatively high alcohol and low acidity, and lack of powerful scent. Almost any wine producer with ambitions to belong to the great international club of wine grown-ups has to prove that he or she can make a Chardonnay, preferably a Chardonnay fermented and matured in new(ish) oak barrels the Burgundian way, with the best of them.
