Far Niente Vineyards
Founded in 1885, Far Niente operated as a winery until the onset of Prohibition, and was then abandoned for 60 years. Purchased by Gil Nickel in 1979, this historic Oakville winery was restored and vineyards were replanted. Founded with a passion to make exceptional wines, Far Niente wines are rich in aroma, flavor, and texture, yet balanced with graceful finesse. Today, the winery pursues the dream of creating an American wine estate of international importance.
1997 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Estate Bottled
The wine displays the typical cassis and blackberry notes along with spicy oak aromas that have become synonymous with the Far Niente "house style." Time enhances the flavors and nurtures the bottle bouquet, offering elegance, and earning Far Niente the reputation for creating age worthy wines.
The 1999 is true to form for young Far Niente Chardonnay -- tightly wound, intense, and citrusy. Cellar this one with confidence or enjoy now for its youthful vigor.
