The Wagner family began as farmers in 1906, and Charles J (Chuck), bonded the winery in 1971.
The first commercial crush was in 1972. The modest, low-frills winery is named after the Caymus Indians.
The Caymus family produces complex wines with great style and a voluptuous texture.
Even if Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc are produced at Caymus, Cabernet Sauvignon has always been king.
Since its founding in 1972, Caymus Vineyards has focused its
attention on Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Charles F. (Charlie) Wagner,
his wife Lorna B. Wagner and their son Charles J. (Chuck) Wagner had built their
winery among the vines planted on the family's ranch in Rutherford, a district
long recognized for producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignons. The Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon is marvelously well-balanced, with the fruit
already soaking up the new oak. Rich, full-bodied, marvelously concentrated, and
Conundrum Red; yet another puzzling blend of varietals, coming together to form a harmonious, complex and delicious wine. Intensely colored and fragrant, the wine opens up with evocative aromas of blackberry, raspberry, rhubarb and cola. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and exuberantly fruity, pairing black cherry, plum and pomegranate notes with more soulful cinnamon, lavender and cocoa nuances. The tannins are firm yet supple, and the finish is long with enticing notes of brown spice, bramble fruits, vanilla and toasty oak.

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection 2012
More than a classic example of Caymus Cabernet, this wine exemplifies the uniquely singular Caymus “house character.” The intention over the decades has been to make subtle changes in order to improve wine quality – in the vineyard and in the winery. "So delicious now, you can hardly keep your hands off it. Blackberry tart, ripe blueberry, cassis, milk chocolate, licorice and sweet, smoky cedar flavors flood the mouth,
dramatically huge and memorable, and lasting long into the finish. The tannins are obvious, but sweetly ripe and soft. A brilliant evocation of Napa Cabernet, shows the class and potency this bottling has exhibited for many years, and
believe it or not, the price is a relative bargain these days." Rated 97 points

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Caymus Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time” – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla.

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
My family is fortunate to have lived and farmed in the center of the Napa Valley for five generations, During my childhood, our farmhouse was surrounded by vines as my parents were grape growers who sold their crop to local wineries. My dad, Charlie was also known as a talented home winemaker, so it was no surprise when he planted Cabernet wines on our land. The home wine he produced from those vines was very impressive and the impetus behind our decision to start a family winery- which is now in its third generation. We chose the name Caymus, a historical name given to
our area of the Valley during the 19th century. This wine exemplifies our style of Cabernet out of a great vintage-deep color, rich, concentrated and balanced. 2012 celebrates 40 years of producing our pride and joy, Caymus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. -CHUCK WAGNER, OWNER/WINEMAKER
