Byron Vineyard and Winery
Byron is located on the eastern edge of the Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County. Twenty years ago
they began a series of trials to determine the best methods for their vineyards.
They planted more than two dozen clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and several dozen rootstocks in the European high-density style on the Santa Maria Bench.
Byron estate vineyards reflect the knowledge and insight gained from The Big Experiment.
Byron Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2013
This vintage included a very warm and dry spring. These conditions led to being fruitful with small clusters and small berries with flavors of stone fruit, fig, honey, hints of brown spice and mineral.
Nice, fresh aromas of pear, green apple, a little spice and fig. The palate is both crisp and concentrated.
This is quite a tasty wine with nice tangy citrus fruit, a little baking spice,
honey and mineral notes. Light buttery notes lead into the finish.

Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley 2013
Byron Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley is styled to highlight the vivid aromas and flavors of their cool-climate fruit, enhanced by careful winemaking. The hand-sorted grapes received a cold soak for three to five days prior to fermentation to develop fruit character, color, and body. During fermentation, a combination of punch-downs and pump-overs was used to circulate the skins and juice, ensuring maximum extraction. The wine was transferred to small French oak barrels, where it aged for 10 months in their temperature-and humidity-controlled barrel rooms.

Santa Maria Valley
The Santa Maria Valley is located on an unusual topographic slice of land known as a transverse range. Unlike the majority of California’s wine producing valleys, the orientation is east to west rather than north to south. As a consequence, an unprecedented amount of marine air and accompanying fog is pulled into the vineyards from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Byron's Santa Maria Pinot Noir reflects its cool upbringing with aromas of rose petals, cherries, earth, brown spice and smoke.
