 In 1875, Jacob and his brother Frederick made their initial land purchase including the St. Helena Home Vineyard and the Hudson House, where Jacob took up residence. The winery was established a year later in 1876.Beringer Vineyards, the oldest continuously operating winery in the Napa Valley, produces a wide selection of premium wines. Under the guidance of Ed Sbragia, one of the most respected winemakers in California, Beringer has emerged as a name synonymous with quality and excellence. Beringer is known among connoisseurs for its highly acclaimed Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots, and has won two Wine Spectator "Wine of the Year" awards in 1990 and 1996.
Beringer Vineyards is known for producing a wide range of superior red, white and rosé wines as well as a few very high quality dessert wines. Beringer Rosé de Saignée, Knights Valley Alluvium Blanc, Napa Valley Rhine House Cabernet,
white Zinfandel and Beringer Port of Cabernet represent an excellent sampling of these fine wines.
