Alban Wine Alban Wine - The first American Winery and Vineyard established exclusively for Rhone variety wines: Viognier, Roussanne, Syrah and Grenache. The Edna Valley vineyard is family-owned by John Alban. With an emphasis on varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier and Roussanne, and vineyard site and practice, he’s achieved remarkable success since he set up on his own in 1989. The pioneering efforts of Alban Vineyards have opened a new frontier here, and garnered significant acclaim. Many French and U.S. producers have followed Alban's lead and located in our region to produce unique and outstanding "Rhones". His current products include Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, and a red Rhone proprietary blend. His several early vintages have gained notoriety among the Viognier leaders, with his Roussane, regular, and Reserve bottlings also of fame.
Alban Syrah Edna Valley Reva 2004
Pioneering vintner John Alban, based in the Central Coast appellation of Edna Valley near San Luis Obispo, is a leader of the Rhône revolution sweeping California. For the fifth vintage in a row, Alban does his mother proud with a score of 93 or more points for the Reva bottling, her namesake. There's also the high quality Lorraine, a Syrah named after Alban's wife, and Seymour, a Grenache-based blend named for his father. The grapes come from Alban's 60-acre estate vineyard. 1,440 cases made.
