Yangarra Estate Wines
Yangarra Estate is situated above a rich basin of vineyards in the Foothills/Blewitt Springs area in McLaren Vale, South Australia.
They specialize in Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre. 420 acres of vineyards, pastures, towering native red gums (eucalyptus), natural creeks and dams are what we call the home of Yangarra Estate Vineyard wines. Nestled at the base of the Mount Lofty/Sellicks Hill ranges that surround McLaren Vale, our vineyards experience slightly cooler temperatures than that of the central basin of McLaren Vale. Yangarra Estate only selects fruit from the top appellations of Australia, then uses both Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates and Australian innovative winemaking approach to produce varietal wines of inimitable quality. Grenache and Shiraz are the major varieties grown on the estate.
Yangarra Estate Wine makers
Australian winemaker, Peter Fraser, teamed up with KJWE's Winemaster Randy Ullon to blend and bottle Yangarra Park wines in the famous Barossa Valley of South Australia. Peter brings his widely regarded depth and breadth of knowledge of each of Australia's finest winemaking regions. Peter's deft and cosmopolitan wine style results from more than eight years experience in the Australian wine industry.
Peter spends most of his time in Australia, making the Yangarra Estate Vineyard wines and since 2003 he has been travelling to the United States during harvest, as consulting winemaker for Jackson Family's Syrah programs in Santa Barbara, California.
Whilst not one for singing his own praises, Peter has gained great acclaim and award for our Yangarra Estate Vineyard wines, including the great result for our 2001 Appellation Series McLaren Vale Shiraz being selected in the 2003 Wine Spectator Top 100 wines.
McLaren Vale
Prior to European settlement, aborigines lived in the Fleurieu region (of which McLaren Vale is part) for more than 6,000 years. These aborigines were called the Kaurna (pronounced gran-ah) people and many of the local towns on the Fleurieu Peninsula reflect aboriginal names and meanings. Kangarilla for example, the closest town to Yangarra Estate Vineyard, means “place where something was looked after” in the Kaurna language. Yangarra Estate Vineyard is located in a cooler sub region providing a longer ripening season and producing wines of great structure and natural tannins.

Yangarra Estate Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre McLaren Vale Cadenzia 2004
A blend inspired by the opera term for an improvised personal expression at the end of an Aria, this blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre blends together the array of flavors and terroirs of the estate, as well as being driven to create a common name for Grenache blends that are unique to the McLaren Vale appellation. Flavors of Blackberry, bing cherry, mulberry, plums, nuts and subdued oak flavors slowly tapering off to a lingering finish.”
PETER FRASER, Winemaker
Rated 93 Points Wine Spectator Top
100 wines of 2006 #43 - "A vivid red, rich and velvety, brimming with plum, blackberry and cherry flavors wrapped in a veil of very fine tannins, weaving a dark chocolate note through the long, generous finish. Best from 2008 through 2015." - Harvey Steiman, July 2006 |
