Two Hands Wines
Two Hands is a young dynamic producer dedicated to making the best Shiraz based
wines from prized Shiraz producing regions in Australia. The 'two hands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz based wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia.
Michael Twelftree, initially from a construction background, spent a number of years exporting Australian wine to USA and Asia. Richard Mintz, a chartered accountant, was formerly CEO of one of Australia's leading cooperages in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. With Twelftree’s contacts and wine savvy approach and Mintz’s management skills and business acumen, the two old friends decided to make some wine together.
The heart of the operation is located in Marananga in the Barossa Valley.

2005 Two Hands Bella’s Garden Barossa Valley Shiraz

Tasting Notes
Dense purple red almost black. A powerful nose of ripe plums and succulent blackberries laced with a hint of cedar spice.
Wow! Bella's as always shows amazing depth and power whilst maintaining an elegant fruit purity. Matured in all French oak, the majority being seasoned barrels, allowing the fruit to do the talking with only the merest hint of cedar oak to support the ripe plum and mulberry flavors. Finely woven tannins produce a long linear wine forming a race track like structure along the palate. Great length and persistency of flavour.
Winemaking
Crushed and fermented in 5-10 open top fermenters with regular pump overs; three daily during peak fermentation to extract color and tannin. A small percentage of free run is drained off and
transferred to barrel to complete fermentation; remaining must receives 7 to 21 days maceration before the dry free run is drained to tank, the wine is then racked to barrel. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. Minimal fining and non filtered.

Two Hands Lily's Garden Shiraz 2005
Lily’s Garden represents their finest barrels of McLaren Vale Shiraz; this is the big sister to their Angels Share Shiraz. As always the wine was matured in seasoned American oak hogsheads, the older barrels offering subtle but complimentary overtones of vanillin spice; enhancing, rather than dominating, the wonderful spicy plum fruit of this wine

Cellar Door
They pride ourselves on offering visitors to the
cellar door a memorable experience, one which is intimate, informative and
relaxed. They are able to offer structured tastings, where the wines are
presented in flights, giving you the opportunity to compare and contrast, while
Two Hands staff explain the different styles and winemaking techniques. Adjacent to the cellar door is the bakehouse. This was traditionally the kitchen where all the cooking was done in a wood fired oven. With sweeping views of the vineyards this magnificent room has been restored to include a glass floor looking down onto a cellar. |
