Wine Spectator's California Wines
James Laube is no mere wine spectator. He's an active
participant, as evidenced by Wine Spectator's California Wine, the completely
revised second edition of his 1996 James Beard Award winner. Drawing on more
than 50,000 personal tasting notes and two decades as a wine writer--most of it
as the Spectator's Napa-based correspondent--Laube presents a refreshing
reference work ("not a buyers' guide" he insists) to those serious about
California wine. |

Previously featured wines:
Paraiso Vineyards, Monterey, 2001 Pinot Noir
Di Stefano, Walla Walla, 2001 Cabernet Franc
Barnett Vineyards, Napa, 2002 Chardonnay
Hanna Winery, Sonoma, 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon
The jewel in the crown of the Hanna vineyards, Bismark is high in the Sonoma
Mayacamas Mountains, with elevations from 1400-2600 feet. 67 acres here are
devoted to the Bordeaux varieties, Syrah and Zinfandel. The vines grow in
decomposed igneous rock. With tiny tonnage, this vineyard produces inky,
powerful wines that age beautifully. "A high-quality, food-friendly Cab" Color:
Dark ruby. Aroma: Bordeaux, tobacco and currant aromas. Taste: Full bodied and
elegant with substantial tannins. -- New York Daily News
Eugene Wine Cellars, Willamette, 2001 Syrah
In 2000, Bruce and wife Bettina opened the doors of Eugene Wine Cellars. Bruce
and Brad Biehl were introduced to the wine industry in the late 1970's after
working in agriculture during their youth. Bruce continues his management of
independent vineyards, while Brother Brad continues his consulting work with
King Estate and manages Eugene Wine Cellars' premium wine production. With
combined experience over 50 years, their knowledge, passion, and skill is
evident in every bottle. |
