California Sonoma Valley Wines
Sonoma county offers a landscape of beautiful valleys and winding roads and is nested between the Pacific coast on the west and rolling hills and mountains on the East. You could make a very good version of almost any wine in Sonoma County. This large appellation (wine-growing area) in Northern California has a 150-year history of wine making and excels at Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Pinot Noir, to mention just three. But if I had to pick the one varietal wine that best represents Sonoma County, it would be Chardonnay.
Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County, California
For this wine, Sebastiani sourced their Cabernet Sauvignon from three Sonoma County sub-appellations known for their outstanding quality grapes and long-lived wines: Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley. In keeping with classic Bordeaux style, they blended in Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec for added complexity and drinkability. Included was a small amount of Petite Sirah to contribute more color and tannin.
Murphy Goode Chardonnay Sonoma County, California
Grapes from Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley are the heart and soul of this bright Chardonnay with a rich and creamy texture. In 2006, they had a long, cool growing season which led to a late, drawn out harvest. They’re not complaining though – longer hang time intensified the flavor and development of the grapes. This is a bright and approachable wine that tastes like apple pie in a glass that’s better than Mom’s!
La Crema Pinot Noir Sonoma, California
La Crema's location in the Russian River Valley is ideal for producing wines of uncompromising elegance and balance.
This Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir offers expressive aromas of ripe cherry, spicy clove and licorice punctuated by fresh floral notes. Bright cherry continues in the mouth, joined by plum, orange peel and tea leaves, giving a mouth-watering juiciness to this wine. balanced acidity and sturdy tannins round out the mouth.
Kenwood Chardonnay Sonoma, California
Combing grapes from the cool climate regions of southern Sonoma Valley and the Russian River Valley, Kenwood’s 2007 Sonoma County Chardonnay nicely balances the classic fruit flavors of this varietal with subtle notes of French oak aging.
Lush and viscous mouth feel with a lingering, slightly crisp finish.
Gloria Ferrer Brut Sonoma Sparkling Wine
This Gloria Ferrer Brut Sparkling Wine is prepared according to
the traditional method. Its bouquet with pear aroma distinguishes it from
other sparkling wines and the fruity aroma lends it an initial
effervescence which culminates in a lingering, creamy effect.
Benziger Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma, California
The Benziger Family Winery was founded in 1980 on the slopes of Sonoma Mountain. Benziger’s Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon has flavors of wild cherry, raspberry, dark chocolate and cedar. In the mouth, the wine has weight and long, soft tannins.
A smooth rich wine that would go well with stews and other hearty meats.
Each winery's entry consists of overall quality
rating, one to five stars, founding date, current owner, winemaker,
acreage, case production, varietals estate-grown and purchased, as
well as notes on selected wines.
