The Bollinger Champagne house is still a family run business in an industry dominated by giant companies.
Founded in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger of German origin, the domain was pretty
small, 11ha. Today, the domain is more than 120ha with a production of 1 200 000
bottles a year. This is a traditional house that stills uses oak for
fermentation and apply a "Charter of Quality". Grand Année
means "Great Year" and such vintages are released only for exceptional
years. "RD" is a Bollinger trademark, stands for “recently disgorged” and refers to the process by which the yeast sediment is removed from a bottle of Champagne.

nuances. It expands on the palate, showing depth and length, with an aftertaste

Bollinger RD Champagne
"R.D." stands for “recently disgorged” and refers to the process by which the yeast sediment is removed from a bottle of Champagne. Bollinger’s R.D. is a unique wine that spends a particularly long time aging on the yeast (a minimum of eight years) before being disgorged. While the wine is maturing in contact with the yeast, the wine’s subtlety and complexity are greatly increased. Thus, the longer the wine is in contact with the yeast, the higher the quality.

Bollinger 1997 Brut Grande Année Champagne
The House of Bollinger only produces vintage champagnes in exceptional
years, when the grapes have reached a perfect quality and maturity with a
perfect balance between the acids and sugars. Hence the denomination
"Grande Année" given to this champagne which, unlike the "Special Cuvée",
is only produced from grapes of that particular harvest.
